Description: In Liberia, the Joghban Clan just demonstrated that stopping landgrabbing is possible when communities stand together, mobilise and resist. Men, women and youth were involved in the struggle to protect the Clan’s land and remained united despite the divide and rule tactics of the company. The community's resistance began in 2012 when Equitorial Palm Oil began to expand their plantation on to their land. The Clan were united in their opposition, even though they faced intimidation and harrassment by EPO security forces and the police. They lodged a complaint with the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and presented a petition to the government. They were jubilant when President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf committed to supporting their struggle to protect their land. For more information go to: http://www.foei.org/en/what-we-do/land-grabbing
