Description: This photo is from a Veracel eucalyptus plantation in Brazil. Eucalyptus trees (and pine) are the front runners for the first genetically engineered (ge or gmo) trees to be used for commercial use. In the U.S. millions of acres of eucalyptus trees in plantations would be planted if commercialized. The primary force behind these trees in the U.S. is ArborGen. ArborGen is a joint venture between InternationalPaper, Rubicon and MeadWestvaco.
